Mary Pope Osborne wurde 1949 in Fort Skill, Oklahoma, geboren und lebt heute mit ihrem Mann Will, einem bekannten Schauspieler und Theaterdirektor, und ihren Hunden in Connecticut. Im Februar 1993 wurde Mary Pope Osborne zur 27. Präsidentin der Authors Guild, der ältesten und etabliertesten Organisation für Schriftsteller in Amerika, gewählt. Nach vier Jahren als Präsidentin wechselte sie in den Vorstand, in dem sie bis heute Mitglied ist.
